n "Fireboy and Watergirl 6: Fairy Tales," the sixth installment of the famous puzzle-platformer series, players must guide two elemental characters through a mysterious temple filled with magic and traps. To master this game, you need to understand the core mechanics of cooperation and the unique roles each character plays. Fireboy is immune to lava but will perish if he touches water, while Watergirl can safely walk through water but cannot survive contact with fire. Both characters must avoid the green toxic lakes, as these are fatal to both.

The movement controls are straightforward yet require coordination if playing alone. Fireboy is controlled using the arrow keys: the left and right arrows move him horizontally, and the up arrow allows him to jump. Watergirl is controlled using the AWD keys: A and D for horizontal movement and W for jumping. In some versions, the down arrow or S key might also be used to interact with specific environment features.

A major addition in this version is the introduction of magic fairies. These small companions are essential for solving the temple's intricate puzzles. You use your mouse to click and drag the fairies toward specific objects. They can activate colored lamps, pull levers, and move platforms that are otherwise inaccessible to Fireboy and Watergirl. Different colored fairies correspond to specific mechanisms, while rare white fairies are versatile and can interact with any color-coded object.

To complete a level, both characters must reach their respective exit doors at the end of the stage. Along the way, you should collect diamonds—red for Fireboy and blue for Watergirl—to achieve a high score. Since the game is heavily built on teamwork, many puzzles require one character to hold a button or pull a lever while the other crosses a dangerous path. Precision and timing are key to earning a perfect ranking.
